Today Google announced that on April 6, 2020, they will stop support the data-vocabulary markup for rich results, and they will be only supporting schema.org as a data-vocabulary markup for rich results.

Google uses the structured data to understand the content of the page and enable special search results features, here are some examples of both schemas:

Data-vocabulary.org

data vocabulary markup

Schema.org

schema markup

As the reason for this change, Google said that “with the increasing usage and popularity of schema.org we decided to focus our development on a single SD scheme.”

Starting today, Google Search Console will begin to issue warnings for the pages that are using the data-vocabulary.org schema, this way site owners and webmasters will be able to identify the pages that will be affected and replace the markup to schema.org.

Google clarified that this will only affect the rich results feature and that the pages that use data-vocabulary.org schema will remain valid for other purposes.
