Booking Holdings Pulls Out of Libra Association

Booking Holdings, the company that operates Booking.com, Kayak.com, Priceline.com, Rentalcars.com among other websites said that they will withdraw from the Libra Association, Booking is the latest of the big companies that announced their exit from the cryptocurrency project led by Facebook.
In the past two weeks, PayPal, Stripe, eBay, Mastercard, Visa, and Mercado Pago announced separately that they were leaving the Libra project, at the same time that the scrutiny and criticism from different authorities and lawmakers around the globe against Facebook’s cryptocurrency project increased especially in the US and Europe.
Last week the House Financial Services Committee announced that on October 23, Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, will have to testify on a hearing titled “An Examination of Facebook and Its Impact on the Financial Services and Housing Sectors,” where they will ask him about the Libra cryptocurrency project.
According to a report from CNBC, Dante Disparte, head of policy and communications of Libra, said in a statement that the group appreciates Booking’s support for the “goals and mission of the project…”
The Libra Association announced last week that they will meet today in Geneva to formalize the membership of the companies that expressed their interest in participating in the cryptocurrency project.
